                2022年“外研社﹒国才杯”全国英语写作大赛凯里学院选拔赛

一、比赛时间

2022年9月18日—10月13日

二、比赛方式及评分方式

比赛分两个阶段进行：

第一阶段：

比赛在批改网上进行（不限地点、场所）。要求完成一篇约500字的议论文。比赛结果排名前50名者进入第二阶段比赛。

此阶段比赛无需报名，学生直接登陆批改网——完成注册，找题号或链接（凯里学院第六届“英语文化节”系列活动之英语写作大赛），完成写作并提交即可。（注：英语及翻译专业学生：要求各综合英语、基础英语或高级英语任课教师将本次比赛作为一次平时作业布置各班学生，要求全部学生参与；非英语专业学生：要求各大学英语任课教师将本次比赛作为一次平时作业布置各班学生，要求全部学生参与）。

第二阶段：

第一阶段排名前50名的参加该阶段的比赛。比赛时间为10月15日上午9:00-11:30（暂定），地点在2号实验楼2412（暂定）。

三、题目及要求

第一阶段题目：Should College Teacher Check Class Attendance?

要求：

Read carefully the following two excerpts about college teachers checking class attendance, and then write your response in ABOUT 500 WORDS, in which you should:

1. summarize the main message of the two excerpts, and then

2. express your opinion towards checking class attendance by calling names, especially your opinion on whether it’s a reasonable rule.

      You can support yourself with information from the excerpts.

      Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.

Ensure Class Order

Class attendance is taken as the reference in grading in many colleges. It is often called the daily performance of a student. Originally, checking class attendance can be seen as a way of knowing students by their names. Gradually, teachers usually check the class attendance by calling the students’ names at the beginning of a class to ensure an efficient class.

It is of great importance to check the attendance in class since college courses are relatively decentralized. That is to say, the whereabouts of the students are hard to know except in class. Therefore, checking the class attendance is also a means of assuring the safety of the students.

Rather than going to class as expected, many students wouldn’t mind skipping classes to do things they are interested in. Supervision should be given to these young adults to push them forward in studying. After all, the self-control ability of these college boys and girls should not be overestimated. At the same time, checking class attendance is important for the teachers and it’s irresponsible for a teacher to go on with class anyway despite the poor attendance rate.

A Mechanical Rule

Though checking class attendance is a common rule on campus, it is strongly opposed by many students. A teacher who’s keen on checking class attendance is usually considered not charming enough to keep students. That indicates that the teacher is impotent in teaching tasks and the students can only be kept in class by rules.

Checking class attendance is seen as kidnapping learning. It forces students to attend the class despite the students’ willingness or their aptitude in the subject. The study process therefore becomes passive. And because of the unwillingness towards the class, the class time is wasted by many students by playing with phones or daydreaming. The disapproval of the class and the compulsive requirement of class attendance are conflicted.

At the same time, checking class attendance is also criticized, for it costs a lot of time to keep track of one’s attendance that has reduced the lecture time. The study in college can only be deeper when supported by the students’ personal interest. We cannot expect a student who is forced to sit in class to concentrate on their studies.

第二阶段题目：比赛前5分钟发出。

四、奖项设置

获奖等级按第二阶段比赛结果设一等奖4名、二等奖6名、三等奖10名。所有获奖选手将获得由学校组委会颁发的获奖证书。

五、选手培训

初赛结果出来后，由外国语学院组建团队，筹划和制定培训方案对获复赛资格的学生进行培训，并组织参加省级复赛。

六、其他事项

1.请各教学分院高度重视此项赛事的开展，广泛动员，促使学生们积极、踊跃参加！

2．赛前：利用电脑、手机、Pad等电子设备登录“句酷批改网（网址为http://www.pigai.org）”， 免费注册个人账号。注册时，每位学生务必填写真实学号、真实姓名和班级等信息。考生对个人信息准确性与真实性负责，主办方后期不接受个人信息修改申请，如有虚假信息，一经查实取消比赛资格和成绩。

3.作文内容不得抄袭网络资源，要求相似度在15%以下，一经发现抄袭，成绩视为无效。在截止时间之前，文章可反复修改、反复提交，系统计最后一次提交成绩。

       4.本次比赛启用禁止复制粘贴功能、抄袭检测功能。
